Poly (N-Isopropylacrylamide) Microgel-Based Etalons for Optical Sensing
Poly (N-isopropylacrylamide) (pNIPAm) is one of the most completely studied “smart” polymers due to its unique reversible thermoresponsivity. That is, when pNIPAm in water is heated > ~31°C, it transits from a random coil to a globule conformation; this transition is reversed when T < ~31°C. This conformational change is accompanied by water exchange process. When pNIPAm undergoes the coil to gl...
متن کاملControlling the response of color tunable poly(N-isopropylacrylamide) microgel-based etalons with hysteresis.
We present the hysteresis of the response of the poly(N-isopropylacrylamide)-co-acrylic acid microgel-based etalons to solution temperature and pH changes. We find that the optical hysteresis of the etalon can be controlled using various solution ionic strengths and/or counterions, as well as by varying the microgel's acrylic acid concentration.
متن کاملColor-Tunable Etalons Assembled from Poly (N-Isopropylacrylamide) Based Microgels
Photonic materials (PMs) that are capable of manipulating and controlling light in systems have immense potential for the computing and communications industries. These materials are formed by assembling components of differing refractive indices in a periodic array. Light then interacts with this assembly, which results in constructive and destructive interference, and hence color. While many ...
متن کاملPoly (N-isopropylacrylamide) Microgel-Based Optical Devices for Sensing and Biosensing
Responsive polymer-based materials have found numerous applications due to their ease of synthesis and the variety of stimuli that they can be made responsive to. In this review, we highlight the group's efforts utilizing thermoresponsive poly (N-isopropylacrylamide) (pNIPAm) microgel-based optical devices for various sensing and biosensing applications.
متن کاملInternal Motions of both Poly(N-isopropylacrylamide) Linear Chains and Spherical Microgel Particles in Water
Poly(N-isopropylacrylamide) (PNIPAM) linear chains and spherical microgel particles in very dilute aqueous solutions were studied by dynamic laser light scattering (LLS) over a wide range of scattering angles (6-154°). For the linear chains, at x < 1, only one peak related to diffusion was observed in the line-width distribution G(Γ), while for x > 1, we detected a second peak related to intern...
